National Handloom Day is observed every year on 7th August to uphold the legacy of the Indian handloom industry, promote the handloom industry, and highlight the importance of weavers, with the aim of socio-economic development of the weavers. The day is celebrated to mark the beginning of the Swadeshi Movement in Kolkata on August 7, 1905. In connection with this, every year on the 7th of August, Handloom Day is celebrated for the growth of the handloom sector and the upliftment of weavers.
