Kerala Handloom Mark “ക” Registration is being implemented under the Standardization of Value Added Handloom Products Scheme implemented by the Directorate of Handlooms & Textiles under the Department of Industries, Government of Kerala.

The objective of this scheme is to revitalize the Kerala handloom sector in a comprehensive manner to brand the handloom products of Kerala at the national and international level, to find better market opportunities and to bring innovative design ideas to handloom. As part of this, a website with information on Kerala handloom products has been developed. (www. kit. kerala. gov. in) The Indian Institute of Handloom Technology (IIHT), Kannur has been entrusted with the task of registering and certifying the use of Kerala Handloom mark “ക” (Kaithari indication Tag , KIT) for handloom products on its website.

The scheme can be availed by handloom textile manufacturing Establishments /Individuals / primary handloom co-operative societies, industrial co-operative societies. The registered firms will be given the “ക” brand tag. It is obtained from IIHT Kannur. The tags affixed on the handloom products will enable the consumers to check the production source, specification and other details of the products using a mobile scanner. This system is useful in identifying counterfeit products from other sectors, including powerloom, which are easily available in the market in the name of handloom, and in getting the genuine handloom product to the customer.
