The programme intends to showcase the evolution of the industry, rich craft diversity and an overall overview of the processing activities in the region in which the weavers are concentrated. It is proposed to set up a Common Facility Centre, which will include dyeing and other public activities, in the handloom village of Chendamangalam in Ernakulam district.

In the year 2012-13, the State Government launched the Handloom Integrated Scheme. The Indian Institute of Handloom Technology, Kannur has been entrusted with the project implementation and a State Level Project Committee has been constituted to oversee the implementation.
