Handloom School Uniform scheme continues to be a major impactful project of Government since its inception in 2016-17. 5900 weavers and 1600 allied workers are directly involved in this scheme. 300 primary handloom weavers co-operatives societies, half a dozen spinning mills, IIHT, Hantex, Hanveev etc are associated with this project. The entire machinery of Handloom& Textiles and District Industries Centre are also involved in this project.

The project aims to give continuous job to handloom workers throughout the year with a decent income. For the last 3 years, the handloom workers were provided employment between 200 to 300 man days per annum. An average per day income of rs.600/- was also extended to them. As on date 121.78 lakh meters of uniform fabric was produced out of which 74.16 lakh meters have been distributed to the School Uniform.

In the academic year 2017-18, 9.57 lakh meters of uniform was distributed to 2689 Government Schools from class 1 to V. 2929 weavers participated in the scheme in 2017-18. In the academic year 2018-19, it was decided to distributed uniform from class 1 to VI in Government Schools. 22 lakhs meters of handloom uniform was distributed to 3578 Government Schools. For the academic year 2019-20, It was decided to distribute uniform to 8.5 lakh was of students from class 1 to 7 in Government Schools and class 1 10 4 in aided schools. 42 lakhs meters of handloom uniform was distributed to 6963 schools.

In the academic year 2020-21 it has been decided to distribute uniform to 9.39 lakh numbers of students from class 1 to 7 in government Schools and class 1 to 4 in Aided Schools. 46.50 lakh meters of fabric, is ready for distribution. For the academic year 2021-22, the production process is going on.
